"Shadowridge’s most popular entertainer is Joe Rathburn, a one-man mobile band who plays songs from the ’60s and ’70s, accented with plenty of Caribbean rhythms. His music has turned Friday nights into a round-trip visit to Margaritaville for a growing number of regulars. "

Joe Rathburn's ISLAND Band is the real thing! They perform all
the varieties of Caribbean styles: SOCA, REGGAE, and CALYPSO
with the heat and energy the music inspires, the steel drum
lends an authenticity that actually commands you to dance.
When they played the Dark Thirty Concert Series, they filled the house.

When I hear Joe Rathburn’s Island play I am amazed at the talent. Their brand of Caribbean influenced rock music just makes you happy and begs for you to get up and dance. They are truly extraordinary musicians and entertainers. Joe and his ISLAND band have been an important part of our SDPHC Anniversary Party for many years. It is a major annual event that has raised many thousands of dollars for worthy charities. Something big would be missing without Joe Rathburn's ISLAND.

As organizer of the Point Loma Summer Concerts, I have worked with Joe during 4 of our seasons. There is no equal to his level of professionalism. And every one of the ISLAND group is a superb musician--Joe wouldn't have it any other way.

Eddie and Patrick,
It’s about that time to start thinking about the band line up. I think we were pretty successful with our choices last year [at the Barefoot Bar]. We had Joe Rathburn's ISLAND on Sunday afternoons and they were a big hit. I’d say book them again on Sundays and get that over with. I have all the info for you if you want help with booking the rest of the days.
Thank you,

“We’ve seen a huge increase in business on music nights,” says Matt Zuckerman, food and beverage director at Shadowridge Country Club in Vista, California. “Our members really enjoy it and just keep asking for more.”
Shadowridge’s most popular entertainer is Joe Rathburn, a one-man mobile band who plays songs from the ’60s and ’70s, accented with plenty of Caribbean rhythms. His music has turned Friday nights into a round-trip visit to Margaritaville for a growing number of regulars.
“People want to hear tried-and-true favorites,” says Rathburn, a San Diego-based singer/songwriter whose repertoire also includes a wealth of original material. “As time goes on, I can slip in an original here and there, but for the most part, people want to come out and hear songs that they know. So that’s what I give them — but I give each song a different spin.”
Word of the fun-filled nights has spread, and Rathburn says that giving guests a good time is the best advertising there is. Zuckerman concurs, saying that all they have to do at the club to fill the room is put up a flyer indicating when the live music begins.
One member consistently in the crowd is Kathy Schwartzberg, a Friday night regular long before the music began.
“It has changed everything,” she says. “There are tons of people who never came in on Friday nights who wouldn’t miss it. You get to see people you haven’t seen in a while, and Joe makes it a lot of fun. People sing along or get up and dance. Everyone has a really good time.”
RE: Summer Entertainment Program at the San Diego Hilton Mission Bay
Joe Rathburn (Kokonut Joe),
My Friend, you are a true professional
This was the last week of the Entertainment Season at the Hilton, and as usual you were the Hit of the Summer. Not only were you an asset to the property, you made my life more comfortable.
Peter (food and beverage manager) asked me to work with Entertainers that he had worked with in the past, but finally agreed that there is more than just playing an instrument. He finally acknowledged that the only TRUE PROFESSIONAL was JOE RATHBURN.
When you committed, you performed. You were always a positive Ambassador for the property. Joe, after five years it is refreshing for someone else to realize your worth. I have always appreciated your quality and loyalty.
"Thank you, Thank you and Thank you!"
Always Respectfully Yours,
